In the heart of the Srebuoso community in Ghana, a small public school faced a daily struggle. Without access to clean water, proper toilets, or handwashing facilities, the students were at risk of contracting preventable diseases. Every day, they attended class with dirty hands, putting their health and education in jeopardy.

Kwame Badu*, a 13-year-old student, vividly remembers their challenges. “Before, we couldn’t wash our hands properly, even after using the bathroom or playing outside. We were always worried about getting sick,” he shared.

But then, a ray of hope arrived. Thanks to the generous support of an anonymous donor and the tireless efforts of WSUP, Srebuoso Basic School received a brand-new WASH facility. The facility, equipped with washrooms, girls’ changing rooms, and handwashing basins, was a dream come true for the students and the entire community.

On the day of the facility’s handover, the excitement was palpable. The students couldn’t contain their joy as they explored their new space. Kwame beamed with pride, saying, “Now I can wash my hands whenever I need to, especially before meals and after using the bathroom. I feel healthier and can focus better on my studies.”

WSUP didn’t stop there. To ensure the facility’s long-term sustainability, they conducted a hygiene education session for the students and reinforced the role of the School Health Committee in maintaining the facility. Hygiene materials were also donated to the school.

The impact of this intervention is immeasurable. By providing access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities, WSUP has not only improved the health and well-being of the students but has also created a more conducive learning environment. Kwame said, “This facility is a game-changer for our school. It’s given us hope for a brighter future.”
